I am a former PADI instructor and have been diving in Cozumel since the 1980's. I have seen good operators and have heard stories about bad operators over the years. I assure anyone reading this review that Blue Notes Scuba in Cozumel is one of the very best. I have made multiple trips over the past three years and plan to return again in 2027. The boat crew and divemaster were definitely worthy of five stars. They were very accommodating and extremely safe. Their divemaster, Ludyvine, had eyes in the back of her head and her situational awareness of the divers in her group was impressive. As a fellow dive professional, I noticed. She was 100% squared away and safety conscious. Kudos to her! On my last trip I reached out to the owner of Blue Notes with a very specific request for a small group of friends that I brought to Cozumel. The owner, Doug, was able to coordinate our needs with a small private vessel, equipment, crew, etc and I very much appreciate his exceptional service. Note that the attached pics were taken aboard the small private boat I requested as opposed to Blue Notes usual dive boat that is fast, well equipped and even more accommodating.

Every Spring Break, the high school where I teach brings a dozen juniors and seniors to Cozumel to earn their PADI Open Water certifications or extend their diving experience. The dive shop we’ve used previously raised their overall cost by more than US$1000, so we had to find another company. From the first time I reached out to Blue Note Scuba, owner Doug emailed me back right away. The reasonable costs and quick response times drew us to hire Blue Note but we had no idea what a well-run and friendly shop this would turn out to be. They accommodated us in high style at every opportunity. Our Airbnb wasn’t within walking distance to Blue Note’s shop and we didn’t want to take a taxi to the marina every day. Solution: Blue Note’s boats picked us up from Aqua Safari pier next to Cozumel’s central square for each boat dive. We wanted to do some of our training before we left the US, so Blue Note accepted our “referral training” from our local PADI shop so we could do e-learning, classroom, contained water skills, and pass the final written tests before arriving in Cozumel. One of our students celebrated her 18th birthday during our trip. Blue Note had a cake on the boat and we celebrated during lunch between dives. (Blue Note provided lunch on each day of boat diving.) Co-owners Julie and Doug met us at our Airbnb twice, once to brief our nervous teenagers and adults about what the first day of diving would be like, and again to help the group get started with logging dives on the PADI app and resolve any problems. (A few of our divers accidentally used their school emails to sign up with PADI or had multiple PADI accounts from previous diving experience.) At every step, Julie and Doug treated us more like friends or family than clients. On the boats, everything went like clockwork. The diving instructors/dive masters at Blue Note are attentive, highly skilled, knowledgeable, and just very easy to work with. They gave a thorough pre-dive brief and took the time to walk our students through gear and safety checks and answer questions. Later in the week when everyone was certified, students were able to get their gear ready by the time we reached our dive site. It seemed the whole group was in the water within five minutes of arriving. On our non-diving days, our students mentioned that they missed their diving instructors and looked forward to diving with them again the next day. Our instructors also said they missed our students! One student forgot her underwater camera in the pocket of her buoyancy-control device on a day of cenote diving in Tulum. Julie arranged to have it brought over the ferry to Cozumel and shipped it to our school, all at no cost to us. On one day of boat diving, the spouse of one of our instructors brought her underwater photography gear and took pictures of our group. This was a tremendous value-add. We came away with some amazing photos. We absolutely had a blast working with everyone at Blue Note. We are definitely looking forward to working with Julie and Doug and all the friendly, amazing instructors again next year. Best dive shop in Cozumel, or Mexico, or anywhere.

Blue Note Scuba is hands down the best dive shop I’ve ever had the pleasure of diving with! From start to finish, their team was professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly friendly. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced diver, they make you feel completely comfortable and ensure you have an unforgettable experience. The equipment was top-notch, safety was always a priority, and the dive sites they took us to were absolutely stunning. My friend and I had an amazing experience with Blue Note. We dove with Master Lu and were supported by Danny and the Captain. Lu was a perfect instructor - she reviewed all the safety information, made sure we felt comfortable in our rental equipment and always encouraged us to ask questions. We felt very safe working with her. We have gone on six dives with her so far. The team made sure to choose different sites for each dive and briefed us before each one. The crew picked us up from our hotel every morning, had all the equipment ready for us, and made sure we were ready to go before each dive. Can’t recommend them enough! Thank you!

I had a great time diving with Blue Note! My instructor Lu was patient and thorough and made sure that I had a safe and enjoyable experience. Being that I am not a certified diver, she was relaxed and kind, but made sure that I was safe and comfortable throughout the experience. I would definitely use them again!
