Makara is a scuba diving and freediving project based in Dahab, Egypt. Far from crowded tourist centres, Makara offers calm, well-planned and deeply human diving experiences — for those who love the ocean, good company and doing things properly underwater.
Most dives are done from shore, at their own pace and in small groups. PADI-certified guides around Dahab's and the Red Sea's best sites, courses at every level with low ratios, selected expeditions in Egypt and abroad: at Makara, diving isn't about ticking boxes on a list — it's about living something real.

Makara doesn't have its own accommodation, but organises complete stays for groups in partnership with carefully selected partner hotels and apartments — from simple local lodgings to boutique guesthouses, depending on the group's style and size.

Safety information:
Emergency oxygen and first aid equipment available during all activities. The nearest recompression chamber is located in Dahab. Emergency procedures are defined for all diving activities.

I had an amazing experience at Makara dive school in Dahab, where I obtained my PADI Advanced Open Water certification with instructor Koldo. He was always attentive and extremely knowledgeable about diving, explaining everything thoroughly. We visited numerous dive sites, including night diving, and the support provided throughout the trip was outstanding. They organized our trip to Mount Sinai, arranged taxis, helped with accommodation, and even recommended great places to eat. The diving experience itself was incredible, with impressive visibility and marine life. Koldo and Irina are fantastic, and I wholeheartedly recommend their dive school. 5/5 stars!

Could not recommend this diving shop more, completed my Advanced Open Water here. Koldo is on another level when it comes to leading dives and having a fundamental knowledge of the local ecosystem and biodiversity within it. Throughout the dives he was forthcoming with improvements to make while pointing out good habits to keep. I also had the pleasure of diving with Mustafa who was a great part of the team. He was a great dive master as well and was very helpful throughout the dives. I did not get to dive with Erina as a dive master, but interacting with her through prepping for dives and day to day things, she was extremely competent and super friendly. Also, super well designed merchandise. :) All in all, the shop was a lively and fun place to be. The dives were spectacular (I highly recommend the night dive) and the whole team were absolute gems. Highly recommend the location for dives and this shop to take you ~unda the seaaaa~
